Our Roastery

Roasting Process

In 2021, our head roaster began his journey with a basic, entry-level roasting machine, driven by a passion for the craft of roasting. This humble start allowed for an intimate understanding of the nuances of coffee roasting, and the product he wanted to produce. The transition to a newer machine marked a significant milestone.

Despite the upgrade, the commitment to small batch roasting remained steadfast, now enhanced by the advanced capabilities of the upgraded machine. This evolution enabled a marked improvement in the consistency and quality of the coffee, blending artisanal techniques with sophisticated technology to deliver a quality product to our customers.

Bean Selection

From the outset, we focused on sourcing specialty coffee beans, mostly with a 84/85 scores. We choose beans from various regions and are inclusive of large and small farm suppliers.

Quality Control

At Boardwalk Coffee, quality control is the cornerstone of our operation. One of the most critical steps in this process is cupping, a meticulous method used to evaluate the aroma, flavour, and overall quality of the coffee beans. Every week, we gather around a table lined with freshly roasted coffee samples. Our team brews each sample under controlled conditions, allowing us to assess the coffee’s profile with precision. This practice not only helps identify the unique characteristics of each batch, but also ensures consistency across all our offerings. Cupping at Boardwalk Coffee is a ritual of precision and passion.

We take notes on a variety of attributes, including acidity, body, sweetness, and aftertaste. By rigorously analysing these aspects, we can detect even the subtlest variations and make necessary adjustments to the roasting process. This level of scrutiny guarantees that only the right beans make it to our customers, maintaining the high standards that have become synonymous with Boardwalk Coffee. This process embodies our commitment to quality and reflects our belief that great coffee is crafted, not mass-produced.

Packaging

At Boardwalk Coffee we chose the packaging based on attributes such as CO2-neutral, High Oxygen barrier and Mono Material. Mono material means is it made using only one material. This simplicity opens up more options for recycling. Certified under DIN EN 13430 Standards. The next standard in recycling. All the bags, as expected, have a valve to preserve freshness and prevent oxidation.
